The Alex Patafio Foundation is committed to a comprehensive, multi-faceted strategy designed to eliminate deaths caused by driving under the influence. Our approach recognizes that addressing this preventable tragedy requires coordinated action across multiple sectors and stakeholders, from lawmakers and law enforcement to educators and community leaders.
Our strategic framework is built upon five interconnected pillars that work synergistically to create lasting change and save lives. Legislative Change & Advocacy
Legislative Change and Advocacy forms the foundation of our policy-driven approach, working to strengthen laws, enhance enforcement mechanisms, and ensure that legal consequences reflect the severity of DUI offenses. We advocate for evidence-based legislation that includes enhanced penalties, mandatory ignition interlock devices, and improved judicial processes, and we’re just getting started!
Our initial efforts will be focused on working closely with Georgia State University’s School of Law in support of education and judicial change at both the state and federal levels.
Industry Engagement
Industry Engagement involves working directly with alcohol service establishments, rideshare companies, automotive manufacturers, and technology developers to implement practical solutions that prevent impaired driving incidents before they occur. We need to create a powerful coalition against drunk driving and these stakeholders provide extensive reach and resources to promote responsible consumption and safe transportation alternatives. A collaborative approach transforms potential opponents into allies, creating sustainable prevention strategies that balance business interests with our shared commitment to saving lives.
Educational Development
Educational Development addresses the root causes of impaired driving through comprehensive awareness campaigns, prevention programs, and evidence-based curriculum development. If we focus on changing attitudes and behaviors across all age groups, with particular emphasis on reaching young people before dangerous patterns develop, we can prevent future tragedies.
The foundation has set up an endowed, full-ride scholarship with the Georgia State University School of Law, called the Alex Patafio Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship will enable people with a passion for public service to achieve their law degree without the burden of debt. In this way, we are also supporting educational development!
Partnerships
Partnerships amplify our impact through strategic alliances with law enforcement agencies, victim advocacy groups, rideshare companies, and community stakeholders including local restaurants and bars. These collaborative relationships enable us to leverage collective expertise, resources, and influence to drive systemic change by creating comprehensive solutions that no single entity could achieve alone.

Fundraising ensures the sustainability and growth of our mission-critical programs. Through diversified funding strategies, we secure the financial resources necessary to support our advocacy efforts, educational initiatives, and community outreach programs.
